Annual Beaufort Wooden Boat Show a hit

The 45th Annual Beaufort Wooden Boat Show has been brought to a successful close.

Picture perfect weather drew thousands to Beaufort’s downtown waterfront for the heritage boat display, which featured more than 50 powered, rowed and sail boats lining Front Street, the N.C. Maritime Museum parking lot and Beaufort Docks. Free traditional sailboat rides, maritime model show, children’s activities, a pirate encampment, art show and more were also offered during the event, which is held annually on the first Saturday in May. This year’s show closed with the awards ceremony recognizing the event’s top artists, maritime model, sailboat race winners and, of course, boats as selected by judges and those in attendance.

This year’s winners were:

Best Classic Sail: Fritha, a 1986 Brigantine owned by Northeast Maritime Institute of Fairhaven, Connecticut

Best Inboard Power: Folly Girl, a 2015 Slow Trawler owned by Kenneth Hewett of Supply

Best Classic Inboard Power: Blue Tango, a 1952 Chris Craft special runabout owned by Bill Conley of Raleigh

Best Outboard Power: Learning Curve, a 2015 Salt Boatworks CS-21 (center console) owned by Salt Boatworks / Adam Parchman of Newport

Best Classic Outboard Power: a 1949 Barbour Lapstrake – Runabout owned by Joseph Peacos Jr. of Greenville

Best Row: Drifter, a 2018 Flathead Drifter/Messer built and owned by Glenn Holland of Raleigh

Best Paddle Powered: a 2019 Guide Model Canoe built and owned by John Grosskopf of Beaver, Pennsylvania
